Snapchat Story

I love Snapchat. I really do.

I saw that one of the Weekly Play options was a video using Snapchat as opposed to Vine. I have created Snapchat stories before, but hadn’t thought about creating one for a unified purpose. The one I created this week doesn’t have much of a meaningful purpose behind it. I was aiming more for unified story. I wanted to just see if I could manage to create the story, download it, upload it to YouTube, and then embed it. The novelty of the process itself was my focus this week.

As it turns out, it was much easier than I thought it would be! I ended up editing my images to make sure the story wasn’t too long. When on the Snapchat app, you can click on a picture to advance the story when you’re ready. Without thinking, the first story I made for this had all 10-second images. It turns out, when you download that the images take a very long time to advance! I realized that without the app function of clicking to advance, 10 seconds is unnecessarily long.

I created a new story using a range from 3-6 second images. I tried a variety of text types, stickers, and forms of media (video and images). I’ve always found that Snapchat is difficult to use when first starting out. However, once you’re used to the platform it’s actually very user-friendly! This entire process was much easier than I thought it would be. I could definitely see doing this again for an authentic purpose.

I was wondering when you’d do the Snapchat play! So glad you learned some new things about downloading what you’d made and making it into a video for all of us to enjoy. I think Snapchat is interesting, especially when trying to make a statement or support a cause. There are actually people who have become famous because of the strength of their Snap stories. I think a good example of one of these people is DJ Khalid. Have you heard much about him or people who Snap and do social media for a living?
